At Fiumicino airport (FCO), there are 20 boxes set up to have COVID-19 swabs done by passengers from Croatia, Greece, Malta and Spain.
There are instead eight areas at Ciampino airport (CIA). These are quick swabs that, in 30 minutes, give the response, both in the case of positivity and negativity.
In the latter case, the passenger is given a sheet with the green light to leave the Rome airport; otherwise, one is sent to a real “isolation area”, always chaired by medical personnel, where a second examination is obtained which establishes the virus charge.
If the viral load from Covid-19 is low, the person can leave the facility and thus go into home isolation for at least 15 days, if the viral load is high, an ambulance for biocontainment is expected to arrive, and the passenger is transferred to a facility for Covid patients.

Those who disembark in Rome, coming from countries considered at risk, have in fact 48 hours to undergo compulsory examination of the covid-19 swab at the local health company of reference.
This is an additional service that Aeroporti di Roma offers compared to the regional drive in.
The designated area is active from 9 am to 6 pm. Those who disembark with a 6pm flight will still have the opportunity to undergo the test, going beyond the established time. For others, the possibility of showing up at the airport the following day to take the exams.
Every day from 24:00 to 5:00 am the departures and arrivals areas of the Leonardo da Vinci Rome International Airport will remain closed to the public to allow the necessary space sanitation operations.
The first aid departments present in the Rome airports also issue a free referral, giving passengers the opportunity to undergo the COVID-19 swab in another private paid facility.
Finally, a new initiative dedicated to baby passengers has started. In fact, since yesterday, the children who undergo the test receive a free lollipop and a gadget from the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports.
