Getting to Rome Fiumicino Airport.
Rome’s main airport is Fiumicino Airport (also Leonardo Da Vinci Rome Airport). It is well-connected to the Rome City Center during the day by two types of trains.
Leonardo Express, a non-stop service exclusively dedicated to airport passengers to / from Roma Termini (Central station in Rome City), leaving every 30 minutes (every 15 minutes during the time slots with higher traffic) and 32 minutes travel time. A single ride costs 14 Euros.
This is the cheapest way to reach your destination in Central Rome: hotel, Bed & breakfast or private apartment. The first departure from Roma Termini is at 5.52 and from Fiumicino at 6.36. The last departure from the airport is at 23.36 and from Roma Termini at 22.52.
The Leonardo Express leaves from platform 25, which can be found 400 meters from the start of platform 24. This service is guaranteed also in the event of a strike (if necessary, the trains will be replaced by buses).
Leonardo Express train makes no mid-journey stops. Railway information toll-free number: 892021
FL1 Regional Train, with departures every 15 minutes (during the weekdays, and every 30 at weekends) connecting from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the Tiburtina station in Rome, in 47 minutes. The stops are in the following stations: Roma Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana.
The price is 8 Euros for a single journey, the ticket is valid for 90 minutes.
The Leonardo da Vinci Rome airport is connected with several bus lines. Here they are:
Cotral, which connects the airport with the two big train stations, Termini and Tiburtina, but also with other metro stations. The price varies depending on the route.
Sit Shuttle bus, leaving from Terminal 2 to get to Via Marsala, near Termini station. The ticket costs 6 Euros.
T.A.M., the bus service that connects the airport – from terminal 3 – to Termini Station (Via Giolitti) and the Ostiense Station (in front of Eataly). The ticket can be purchased directly on the bus.
Terravision, a bus company that goes to the Termini station. The ride takes 55 minutes and leaves every half hour, but it’s the cheapest, 4€.
Rome Airportbus-Schiaffini covers both Fiumicino and Ciampino airport; you can buy the tickets online but also on the bus before departure.
The taxi is the most expensive and seen the traffic of Rome is not always the fastest to reach the Center of Rome, but it’s good that brings you to the destination without any change of vehicle. Beware of illegal taxis, ask before you get what is the cost of travel. On average, from the terminal to the city center, a race should not cost more than 60 euro, but of course everything depends on the traffic and destination.
Rome Fiumicino Airport Taxi fares starts at 48 euro. Instead, Ciampino Airport taxis have a fixed price of 30 euro. These prices are valid if you are going inside the Aurelian Walls (The historical center of Rome).
At this point the question is: Hiring a cab or reserve a car in advance?
A good choice is book in advance a private Rome airport transfer, you will have the benefit of a door-to-door service, and a FIXED PRICE OF 48 EUROS. After the flight it is a precious thing have a driver waiting for you outside the Terminal.
