Rome Fiumicino Airport is well connected to the center of Rome, reachable in optimal conditions in just over half an hour. The most used means of transport to the center of Rome are taxis, cheap direct buses, which have to deal with often heavy traffic, and the Leonardo Express express train (more expensive than the bus but certainly faster).

Train from Fiumicino Airport to Rome

Traveling by train from Rome Fiumicino airport is very convenient, the train station is within the airport area, near Terminal 3.

From here there are two lines you can choose to reach the center of Rome:
– the Leonardo Express rapid train,
– or the regional train.

The Leonardo Express is a direct no-stop train that connects the airport to Roma Termini station (the main railway hub). The transfer takes about 32 minutes and costs € 14.00.

The FL1 regional line, which connects Fiumicino airport with Roma Tiburtina station (the newest railway hub in Rome) in about 45 minutes at a cost of 8.00 euros. This is not a direct connection, in fact it first stops at other stations in the city.

The frequency of both lines (at different times) is every 15 minutes at the busiest times, and every 30 minutes at other times.

Direct buses from Fiumicino Airport to Rome

Buses are the cheapest way to reach the center of Rome. There are several companies that make a direct connection Fiumicino airport – Rome center. The cost of the ticket is around 6 euros.
The low price, however, is offset by more uncertain travel times, due to the often congested Roman traffic. It ranges from about 45 minutes in optimal conditions to over 75 minutes at busiest times. This is a factor to be taken into consideration.

It is good to know that the official taxis in Rome are white, with the word “TAXI” written on the roof of the car. The fixed cost of a ride to the center of Rome, inside the Aurelian walls, is 50.00 euros.

ATTENTION: Be wary of those who offer different rates and especially of illegal taxis that you will meet outside the arrivals of the Terminals.

Ciampino airport is located near the center of Rome, for this reason, in the absence of traffic, travel between the terminal and the city center (considering the central train station of Roma Termini as a reference point) does not last more than 30 minutes. .

Unfortunately, however, this is not always the case, due to the high level of car traffic that can be encountered during the journey.

The main means of transport from Ciampino airport to the center of Rome

In addition to the classic taxi solution, the most commonly used solutions to move from Ciampino airport to the center of Rome are:
– take the direct shuttle bus, with destination Rome Termini station;
– take the bus to the Metro A stop “Anagnina”, and from there continue with the underground;
– take the bus to Ciampino railway station, and then take one of the frequent regional trains

Direct buses from Ciampino Airport to Termini Station

There are so many bus companies that make the direct connection Ciampino-Termini. Among the various options, buses are certainly the most practical solution that you can use to reach the center of Rome, at a very low cost. The price of the bus ticket rarely exceeds 5 euros each way.

Of course, you have to take into account that, during peak hours, the transfer times are much longer due to car traffic. Under normal conditions, the transfer should not take more than 40 minutes.

Bus + Train from Ciampino Airport to Termini Station

Let’s start immediately with the bad news: a direct train between Ciampino airport and Roma Termini station does not exist. However, if you want to get to Rome by train, there is a solution: you can take the bus that connects the airport with the Ciampino train station, and from there you can proceed with one of the regional trains, which depart every 12 minutes, which take 15 minutes to reach Roma Termini. The cost of the train ticket is 1.50 euros.

Bus + Metro from Ciampino Airport to Termini Station

Ciampino airport is theoretically close to the center of Rome, but the connections are not very comfortable. There are no direct connections from the Ciampino airport terminal and Rome Center by subway, but it is possible to take the bus that connects the airport with the Anagnina stop of metro A.
From there it will then be possible to continue throughout the city, taking advantage of the metropolitan connection. This could make this transfer solution for Rome very practical.

Taxi from Ciampino Airport to Termini Station

First of all it is good to know how to recognize a taxi in Rome: official taxis are white and have the word “TAXI” on the roof of the car. The cost of a ride to the center of the Eternal City, inside the Aurelian Walls, is fixed, and is equal to 31.00 euros.

The average travel times to reach the Termini railway station vary considerably depending on the city traffic: in normal conditions, ie outside peak hours, they are in any case around 30-40 minutes.

• Aurelian Walls 31 euros
• Ostiense station 31 euros
• Tiburtina station 36 euros
• Fiumicino airport 52 euros

ATTENTION: Do not forget to avoid those who approach you at the exit of the airport by offering different rates. Any other vehicle present at the airport exit could be driven by people not in possession of a regular license.
